Lab / Genomics Facility Manager or Research Associate

 

Genomics are rapidly evolving into a multi-billion research enterprise and industry. We are looking for a talented individual to join the Southern Alberta Genome Sciences Centre in Lethbridge and the research team of Dr. Athan Zovoilis. Dr. Zovoilis recently joined University of Lethbridge from Harvard Medical School (US) and holds a Canada Research Chair in RNA Bioinformatics and Genomics (www.genome-intelligence.org).

Dr. Zovoilis is a co-founder and the director of the Southern Alberta Genome Sciences Centre (SAGSC), an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Lethbridge. SAGSC develops and applies systems-level approaches in next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, health and agriculture genomics. SAGSC is the leading hub of a network of Albertan Universities, the Alberta BIOinformatics NETwork (BioNet) (www.bionet-alberta.org). SAGSC has developed a significant level of expertise in a wide range of DNA and RNA sequencing applications.

Dr. Zovoilis research team, SAGSC and BioNet are hiring a Lab Manager or a Research Associate for the RNA Genomics Lab and the sequencing facilities within SAGSC. Based on the individual’s previous research experience, training and career stage, this  position has the potential to be advanced into that of the sequencing facility manager (operations). The position is expected to:

  • Contribute to a wide range of research projects on genomics, transcriptomics, epitranscriptomics and single cell genomics, at the wet lab level (incl. next-generation sequencing, cell culture, and molecular biology/biochemical approaches).

  • Assume a key role in the operation of the next-generation sequencers at SAGSC.

  • Contribute to the development of innovative next generation sequencing and single-cell sequencing approaches and tools.

  • Work closely with other team members aiming for high-quality research and sequencing services at SAGSC.

 

Your Profile

  • MSc and/or PhD in a related field of life sciences.

  • An interest in state-of-the-art genomic technologies.

  • Autonomous, dynamic and curious, with significant organizational skills.

  • Prior wet lab experience.

  • Willingness for a long-term commitment to this position and further career advancement within the center.
